As a director, Clint Eastwood has demonstrated his capability time and again, such that when he decides to make a film that may meet expectations, but not exceed them, it almost comes as a disappointment.

Such is the case with The Mule, a slow-burn tale that never truly ignites. Instead it acts as a character study of an elderly veteran who spent his life too wrapped up in himself to realize that he was a failure to his entire family.
